Leopard Dark Glass Dock mod + New Glow + PSD Files
I dig the new dock's reflection, but like most of you - that "scurve" is truly a scurvy thing. So, I made a grey-black gradient, keeping the reflection. Then, I altered frontline.png cause I hated that white line. That's when I realized the "glowing ball" effect was also reflected and that was a bit silly. So, I altered those.

After it all came together, it looked a little like this :
http://revmitcz.com/darkglassdock.png

Since I've seen a lot of these mods in the past few days, and I only spent about 20 minutes putting this all together, I figured I may as well include the working PSD files (I use layer styles for everything, so modding it in Photoshop should take but a few seconds, really) I used for making these suckers. They're very small and the whole package is only about 84k.

So, it's an open source mod

Download it from my site (it's NOT a GUI site, I just have a few domains/servers and I can spare the bandwidth) :
http://revmitcz.com/darkglassdock.zip

EDIT :
I've updated the .zip file to split all the indicator PSDs into separate files and the template_scurve file includes all dock sizes in one file. They should be much easier to work with this way. I've also included updated instructions working w/those files.

Oh, and I made the glowing balls a little closer to the original color/size, so they're not quite as jarring this time around.

I've been a big fan of your work for many years. Consider this as me doing just a wee bit to repay the favor ;)

so...
what if i want to get rid of the lanes dividing apps & files?
easy to do? or...?

either way, this KILLS the original dock (which is just ugly).

Theoretically, you could drop a 1x1 pixel transparent png into the /Dock/Contents/Resources folder, named "separator.png" and it'll at least be invisible. Whether or not it will be automatically resized to match what the separator was or not - I have no idea. I'm just theorizing over here :)

I figured out a few other fun little effects - like making the reflection fade out into the black at the bottom. It looks like this :
http://revmitcz.com/darkvariablereflect.png
(download the scurve files here : http://revmitcz.com/darkvariablereflect.zip )

Then I made it so the top part fades into transparency, so it fits with any desktop image you might be using :

I've been fooling around with those, as well. Seems reflections are drawn under the Dock, and their intensity can be completely controlled by changing the transparency of the S-curve images. So, by making it completely opaque, you can have a matte dock:
http://dlpart.com/dock/MatteL.png

I just put a 65% opaque black layer underneath the original S-curve images, so the reflections are still there, but they're much subtler:

If anyone wants them, all these files can be downloaded here.

the white line comes from the frontline.png file in the dock.app/resources file.

Someone kinda beat me to it, but yeah - it's the "frontline.png" file. If you download the .zip in my original post, I've provided a frontline that removes it. Just follow the instructions :)

loveanh Nov 2, 2007 06:20 PM
So how do I install this? Can someone kindly post instructions? Thanks.

Awesome - thank you.

One thing. In your ReadMe, you indicate that 9 files need to backed up, trashed, and then replaced with 9 files in your archive. However, there is also an indicator_large.png file in the Resources folder as well as in your archive that is not mentioned in the ReadMe. I replaced this one too even though the ReadMe didn't mention it. Was I supposed to? If so, you might want to update the ReadMe file.

Thanks again, this is a fantastic mod and looks great with the default Leopard desktop.
