Transfer MBP guts to old machine?
I have had a 17-inch MBP since 2009. It has been an awesome computer, except that now it isn't powerful enough, and there isn't a 17-inch model available anymore that I can get to replace it. So I got a 15-inch MBP and I'm wondering...would it make any sense (or even be possible) to remove the insides of my new MBP and install it in the old one? Has anyone ever tried anything like this?

The mount points for the motherboard aren't going to line up. Since the case is machined aluminum, fixing this is going to be pretty difficult. The video cable SHOULD work (that part is always a challenge). IIRC, all the 2009-era unibody MBP models have the same LVDS connection on the motherboard.

I think mounting it inside the case in a way that is solid and stable is going to be your biggest challenge.
