Prob: iPad mini reloads apps after every switch of app
Hi All,

Is it normal for an iPad Mini (non retina) to reload apps after each time I switch to another app? I keep losing work.

For example, I'm writing this now in Safari on the Mini in question. If I switch away to another app (any app) and then return to Safari, this page will reload and everything I've typed will be gone. It's maddening; I have an iphone 4 that doesn't do this, and it's a far less capable machine.

Assuming that this is not normal behaviour, any suggestions on a fix? (grrr, just realised I can't switch to Settings to find out exactly which version of iOS I'm running, because I'll lose all this text. It's 7.5.x something, I believe).

Many thanks in advance for any advice.

That's mostly normal behavior. Your description is a bit extreme, but basically that's how it works. The iPad mini has the same amount of memory as the iPhone 4, but needs to fit more in it because of the bigger display. Best workaround I've found is to hold on the text field, pick "Select: All" on the menu that picks up, and then immediately Copy before looking at some other app. If it reloads when you come back, you just Paste.

Rats and double rats, I was hoping that wasn't the case!

I've been doing the "safety copy" for a while now (only workaround I've been able to think of), but it sure cuts down on the free flow from app to app. It is a good suggestion, thanks!

I understand the retina mini has more RAM, but the the load of the higher res screen probably eats that up (but I'm going to test one anyway, to see what's what).

I appreciate the reply and advice, thanks for at least confirming that there's nothing actually wrong with my Mini :-)

If you do this kind of switching apps a lot, you could try the eyebrowse app, made by a fellow NN'er...

I don't believe this is correct behavior. You shouldn't have to do a backup copy just to go to any other app.

Which iOS are you running? How much free space do you have on the device? Do you have a ton of apps running when you double-tap the Home button? Close down most or all of them and see if that helps fix the problem.
