Android 4.0 not coming to HTC Desire HD
HTC's Desire HD smartphone will not be receiving an update to the version 4.0 of Google's Android operating system. As Android Central confirmed, HTC released a statement yesterday saying that their testing indicated that an update was not in the best interest of Desire HD owners. The handset will remain on Android 2.3.

HTC claims it performed extensive testing on the Desire HD, finding that the current version of HTC Sense provided the best user experience on the handset. HTC says that customer experience is the most important factor taken into consideration with regard to software upgrades.

HTC has run into troubles with Android software upgrades in the past. Last year, the company was forced to give in and promise an upgrade to Android 2.3 for the Desire after owners of that handset complained. Apparently, the HTC Sense UI the company puts atop Android makes it difficult to ensure upgrades for HTC's handsets. The Sense UI takes up additional memory assets in addition to those already used by the baseline operating system.

Couple that with the unintuitive new forum style which (for me) makes it difficult to stop in and see what's new makes me want to look elsewhere for Mac news.
