Purported iPad 5 cases appear at Hong Kong electronics show
A case purported to be for a new model of iPad was acquired earlier today by Engadget. The case appears to closely resemble the dimensions and chamfering of previously-leaked cases earlier in the year. According to the staff at the booth, the case is based on a "leaked" mold from the factory making the case parts for Apple.
According to Engadget, "this case again suggests a slimmer and narrower iPad is in the works, which would mean that this mysterious tablet is likely to have the same screen size but thinner left and right-side bezels -- just like the iPad mini." Straight edges also reflect an earlier leak of a similar body style to the iPad mini.
Case leaks from China aren't always correct -- the most notable is the "teardrop" shape assumed to be the iPhone 5 immediately prior to the iPhone 4S release. Leaked cases for the iPhone 5 and iPad mini in the past were generally correct, but manufacturers rely on "leaked" designs that may or may not reflect Apple's actual prototypes and have often been fooled.
