Apple Germany now allowing online store payments via PayPal
A German Mac enthusiast site has noticed that the Apple online store in Germany is now accepting PayPal as a payment option, a new wrinkle that could appear in the US and other countries over time. While PayPal has been an option for payment in the iTunes App Store and the Mac App Store, it was never previously available for any kind of hardware or online retail purchase from Apple.
The system appears to handle purchases as is normal for other sites to deal with PayPal "pay now" buttons: once clicked, the user is redirected to log in with their existing PayPal credentials and use their verified, linked bank account, PayPal credit or a linked credit card to instantly pay for the purchase. Once complete, users are returned to the normal iTunes page.

Apple notes that users can also "pay as a guest" without setting up a PayPal account by using a verifiable credit card that may be accepted by PayPal but not by the native Apple Store. If the order consists of multiple deliveries, the PayPal account will be charged separately for each shipment.

The company, now owed by Ebay, also offers a delayed payment option for some customers, where PayPal pays the bill immediately but does not charge the customer for 21 days. There is no additional fee for this option.
By the way, PayPal has never "been an option for payment in the iTunes App Store and the Mac App Store" in Germany, as opposed to other countries like the US.

So, at the moment, you can pay for hardware from the Apple Online Store with PayPal in Germany, but not the US. And you can purchase apps using PayPal in the US, but not Germany. I guess this is still work in progress.
