Banners going up at Moscone West for next week's WWDC
As the Moscone Center prepares for the capacity crowd to arrive for Apple's sold-out Worldwide Developers Conference next week, an early clue to the tone and tenor of the convention often comes in the form of the logo and banners put up in preparation for the event. This year, as compared to some previous years, fewer hints have been revealed with this year's decorations so far, but the conference is still a number of days away. A few photos (seen below) have appeared showing off the initial banners, with the conference tagline revealed: "Where a whole new world is developing."

The banners retain the multi-colored hues present in the WWDC 2013 logo, which also makes use of a new, thin san-serif font with a twisted inversion on the "WWDC" part to form the beginning of the MMXIII (2013 in Roman numerals) part. Notably the app-like squares in the logo and banners feature rounded corners and no hint of the "gray" motif rumored to be more widely used in the upcoming iOS 7 redesign. It must be said, however, that the squares are very flat -- and the banner re-emphasizes the translucency of the squares, as they overlap to form combination colors.

The WWDC app, which also traditionally betrays some hint of element changes, draws at least some inspiration from the overhaul of iTunes seen in version 11, with most white backgrounds, use of color for selected highlights, flatter buttons less dependent on a 3D shadow effect, and light shades of gray throughout. Mountain Lion also brought in a number of these elements, reducing the use of color and (on older or misadjusted monitors) making it harder to distinguish grey areas from white areas due to an emphasis on higher-resolution graphics.

On the outside of the building, workers are again installing giant white Apple logos on either side of the buildings corner facade. As AppleInsider notes, the area around Moscone West is significantly changed of late, with a revamped Metreon complex offering a new food court to supplement the cafes at WWDC. Other changes include new shops in the South of Market area and subway construction on Fourth Street. Not far from Moscone West is an Apple Retail store at Fourth and Market, and Apple is planning a future store in the Union Square area two blocks north of the current store.
