SignMyPad update rejected from App Store for iCloud document sync
Apple has rejected an update to an iPad app -- SignMyPad -- for syncing PDF files via iCloud, says developer Autriv. The app is used to sign PDFs, but in rejecting the update, Apple reportedly said that it syncs "non-user-generated" content, a violation of terms. Autriv tried to plead its case, but was instead told it might handle sync through a third-party service.

Some other PDF tools do support iCloud sync, such as PDFpen. Since SignMyPad only adds signatures to documents, though, Apple may be worried about the app filling up iCloud accounts with relatively unchanged files. By default, a free iCloud account only includes 5GB of storage. Autriv could conceivably sync files through Dropbox, but that service is also capped at 5GB without a paid account, and serves broader purposes than iCloud.

Kind of a lame app since it doesn't support PIV signing, though.

Seems like they should just allow the files as files, to be synced. It would be up to the developer to make it clear what is going on and to educate their users that this might be an issue.
It is a file, and it should get synced like any other file.
I don't blame Apple for trying to keep support calls down regarding an issue caused by normal use of a developer's app, but this would seem to be counter productive for everyone, including Apple support.
"Hello Apple? Yeah, some of my files are not getting backed up..."
