The Walking Dead: 400 Days coming to OS X now, iOS next week
Telltale Games' video game version of the hit TV show and comic book The Walking Dead has spawned a sequel, called The Walking Dead: 400 Days and acting as a transition between the first and second "seasons" of the show, book and game. Unusually, the new game is available as a $5 in-app purchase from the existing Mac or iOS game. The Mac version is slated to be released today, July 3, while the iOS version will follow a week later. The game follows the story of five new survivors at a truck stop in Georgia.
One reason for making the game available as an in-app purchase may be due to the fact that the new game relies on player choices made in the original game. Likewise, decisions made in the 400 Days game will carry through into "season two" of the game when that is released. Users can play characters in any order, though some decisions will affect the outcome of the other characters' stories. Per the title of the game, the action covers 400 days in the lives of the characters, fighting against a zombie infestation. It is intended as a bridge to the next chapter of the story.
The game was released to North American PlayStation Network on Tuesday, with the Steam and PC releases also coming on Wednesday alongside the Mac release. It will appear on the Xbox on Friday July 5, and finally on iOS and the European PlayStation Network later next week. No Android release is scheduled.

The game is available directly from Telltale Games, or through Steam for Mac and PC. The first Walking Dead game is rated "M" for fairly obvious reasons, and costs $25 for Mac or PC. The iOS version is currently free for a limited time, though the 400 Days add-on will still cost $5 as an IAP.
