Apple celebrates 1B podcast subscriptions
Apple has announced that it has amassed more than a billion podcast subscriptions. The milestone has been reached approximately eight years after the podcast program was initially launched via iTunes. To celebrate, the company is currently highlighting many of the most popular new and classic streams.

Featured content in the classics category includes NPR shows This American Life and All Songs Considered, Mondo Media's Happy Tree Friends and HBO's Real Time with Bill Maher, among others. The "What's Hot" section maintains a similar split between comedy and nonfiction content, with entries such as The Adam Corolla Show, TEDTalks, The Joe Rogan Experience and NBC Nightly News.
The billion subscriptions are reportedly connected to 250,000 different podcasts in more than 100 languages, as noted by Macworld. When combined together, publishers have released more than eight million episodes since the portal launched in 2005.
"From comedy to hard news to sports to innovative educational content and so much more, podcasting has transformed the global media landscape," Apple boasts.
