Photos show alleged rear shell for fifth-gen iPad
New photos show what is claimed to be the rear shell of a fifth-generation iPad. Published by FanaticFone, the images depict a design that initially appears similar to that of the fourth-gen iPad in terms of things like port and button placements. The site notes, though, that the shell measures 24x16.8cm, slightly smaller than the iPad's current 24x18.6. Accordingly, the side bezels have been shrunk while leaving screen space intact.

The latest leak seems to back earlier ones, all of which have suggested that the fifth-gen tablet will borrow design ideas from the iPad mini. By trimming bezels Apple should also be able to trim the weight of the hardware, still an ongoing complaint. Unmentioned by FanaticFone though is whether Apple has made the shell any thinner depth-wise.
When Apple plans to launch the fifth-gen model is uncertain. Typically however the expectation is that Apple will ship it sometime this fall, alongside a second-gen iPad mini.

and that is certainly a lightning dock, right?
bonaccij Aug 1, 2013 12:08 PM
This looks very suspect. The dock at the bottom is too large to be lightening and there is no way they would revert to 30-pin.

Oh, how nice - they are going back to the 30-pin connector ---- FAIL!
Spheric Harlot Aug 1, 2013 05:32 PM
Where on earth are you seeing a 30-pin connector, unless that thing is twenty inches wide?

Actually, the last photo is a mistake on macnn's part.

On the fanaticfone site they have a different photo with a proper dock.
