Sim City for Mac finally arriving on OS X on August 29
Originally planned for release in <a href="" rel='nofollow'>mid-June</a>, the Mac version of Sim City will be released on August 29, Electronic Arts has announced, and will be free of charge for those who bought the PC version. The company originally <a href=" .producer/" rel='nofollow'>delayed</a> the Mac version by saying it <a href=" .new.problem/" rel='nofollow'>wasn't "ready for prime time yet"</a> and that the company wanted to "ensure the Mac [version of the game] is a great experience for our players." The Windows release was <a href="" rel='nofollow'>lambasted</a> by early buyers for serious bugs, overloaded servers and poor administrative decisions that rendered the game all but unplayable for months.<br />
<br />
The forthcoming Mac version will benefit from at least six major patches to the game that have been delivered since launch, restoring most of the promised functionality but leaving a legacy of badly-damaged customer relations. The retail price on the Mac version will be $50 and available from the company's Origin download service or the <a href="" rel='nofollow'>MacGameStore</a>. Users who bought the Origin version for Windows can re-download the native Mac version at no charge. Buyers should be aware that the game still requires an always-on Internet connection, even for single-player mode.<br />

Meh. After playing it on friends windows boxes, its not something I will fork out money for. Just not the simCity game I wanted nor remember fondly.

To be fair: I bought the Windows version when it came out, and it appears that I will get the Mac version thrown in for free when it comes out (if I understand my Origin client correctly). So that's a nice thing (comparable to what Steam does with cross-platform titles). And to be even fairer, there have been a few updates since release (6 big ones so far) that aimed to correct all the many wrongs that this game brings with it.

Still, the always-on thing is moronic, the maps are FAR too small to build anything worthwhile, the AI is still pretty stupid and the game needs at least 6 more updates to be half-way to what it promised to be.

The article is a bit confusing for who gets the free Mac version. Is it only those who purchased the download PC version from Origin, those who purchased either the download OR digital PC version from Origin, only Deluxe Version - $20 difference there? Will it be free for users who purchase the physical version in a store and again standard or deluxe version? I see no mention on or about this free download. They seem to mention "pre-order" but there does not appear to be that option on
