China Unicom surpasses 100,000 iPhone 5s/5c reservations
With less than a week till the launch of the iPhone 5c and 5s, China Unicom has announced that it has received more than 100,000 reservations. The announcement comes less than a week after Apple's announcement, and despite the fact that the company has yet to release any details on its plan to subsidize the devices. However, Bloomberg has received word from analysts that the subsidies are likely be "more conservative" compared to ones offered for the iPhone 5.

The China Unicom figures represent some of the first pre-order figures for Apple's new handsets, yet the high demand has seemingly not affected pre-orders through Apple's Chinese site. Chinese customers can still expect iPhone 5c preorders to ship "no later than September 21," while on the other hand, US shipments for several of the iPhone 5c models have slipped back to October 4th.

China Unicom and China Telecom will both begin offering the iPhone 5s and 5c on September 20th, which is the first time the iPhone has been available to China's customers on its global launch day. Meanwhile, a deal with China Mobile, the largest carrier in the world, is currently in the works but has yet to be finalized.

I read this thread as China Unicorn. Now I'm imagining little ceramic unicorn figurines toiling away in Apple factories.

Well, it would seem that in a country of 1.3 billion people, 100K appears pretty insignificant.
