Apple issues update for Mac iBooks, said to fix miscellaneous bugs
Another standalone fix issued by Apple on Thursday patches iBooks for Mac that addresses a number of bugs in the first release. Earlier today, Apple issued updates for the late 2013 MacBook Pro as well as a Mail patch that fixes one of the bigger complaints about the latter program, namely its handling of GMail accounts. Users had complained that iBooks for Mac would sometimes mishandle and mis-display the available book library when imported from iTunes.

Other issues included reports of missing content, and that the program would attempt (and fail) to launch Adobe Reader when an unprotected PDF in the iBooks library was opened and Reader is set as the default PDF reader. Brief testing by MacNN staff shows that the PDF bug has not yet been corrected in the update, at least on the machines we tested. Switching the default PDF reader to Preview fixes the issue.
The release notes for the update does not specifically itemize the issues it fixes, instead saying the update "addresses performance and stability issues" and fixes miscellaneous bugs. The update does seem to address most of the other early issues. The update is 14MB in size and available through Software Update.
