LiveCode 6.5 adds resolution independence for app output
RunRev has released v6.5 of LiveCode, its simplified app development tool for iOS and Android apps. The update primarily adds resolution independence -- meaning that the same app can quickly be rescaled for any screen size, whether on a phone or a tablet. This includes accommodation for displays with high pixel densities, such as the iPhone 5s and iPad Air.

Developers can also specify just how an app will upscale. "Exact fit" will scale a stack to fill the screen, stretching it if the aspect ratio doesn't match. "Show all" preserves aspect ratio, but may leave blank space. "No border" scales to fill while also preserving aspect ratio, but may cut off some outer portions of the stack.

Some other improvements include evFont integration for easier font management, a better filter command, new text measurement functions, and server graphics support. The last means that LiveCode Server can load and manipulate images in the background for HTML pages it generates.

LiveCode is a free download in its Community Edition, but the Commercial Edition -- which allows distribution -- is $500.
