FireCore unveils Infuse 2 media player, adds formats
Video software maker FireCore has debuted a major upgrade to its Infuse multi-format video player for iOS, now at version 2.0. The update introduces an iOS 7-compliant UI redesign, network streaming from almost any drive or device without syncing, additional supported media formats, integrated Dolby Digital Plus mobile surround sound, and better 1080p and AirPlay support. The app is free but many of the new features are only available with a new "Pro" upgrade that costs $5.

The app works as an alternative media player and AirPlay streamer that can handle far more formats (by re-encoding on the fly) than the built-in iOS apps. By not having to transcode videos or spend time syncing files to iOS devices, users can enjoy and stream media to a wider variety of devices in native formats in real-time. Artwork and metadata related to video files are fetched and added automatically, and the program has support for downloaded subtitles (through OpenSubtitles.org).

Infuse 2 supports multiple audio tracks, importing of non-DRM video files from iTunes, Dropbox or email and offers a 1080p-optimized playback engine. The $5 Infuse Pro upgrade includes the Dolby Digital Plus (AC3) surround support, up to 14 supported video formats, additional subtitle format support, iTunes-unsupported format AirPlay streaming and network streaming.

Users who had Infuse 1.5 can upgrade to Infuse Pro at no charge, and the Infuse 2 app is now available in the iTunes App Store. As with the previous version, the new app also features Trakt social watching integration.
