Apple lists 'Best of 2013' content from iTunes, App Store
Apple has published seven "Best of 2013" lists, showcasing the year's most popular content from iTunes and the App Store. The six categories include music, movies, TV shows, iOS apps and books. Readers can view existing Top Sellers in each of the sections, or editor's choice content such as "breakthrough artist" in music and "best male performance" in movies.

"It's been an amazing year for storytellers," Apple writes. "Both Lorde and Macklemore & Ryan Lewis turned to their underdog origins to craft compelling musical narratives. Meanwhile, the film 12 Years a Slave and Bill Bryson's book One Summer revisit history for new generations."
Curators chose Gravity for best movie, while Breaking Bad and Duck Dynasty both received honors as top TV shows. The language learning app Duolingo took the top spot among iPhone apps, alongside Disney Animated as the iPad app of the year. Meanwhile, in iBooks, George Saunders' Tenth of December led the fiction titles and Bill Bryson's One Summer topped the nonfiction charts.
The Best of 2013 list is published separately from promotion deals on iTunes, such as $7.99 Chart Toppers albums and the 12 Days of Gifts giveaways.
