Final Cut Pro 10.1 adds 4K display support, Mac Pro optimizations
Apple has released updates for its Final Cut Pro X video editing software, along with Compressor and Motion, just in time for the Mac Pro launch. As expected, v10.1 brings several optimizations for the new hardware including dual-GPU playback and rendering, video monitoring at 4K resolution via Thunderbolt 2 or HDMI, and support for 4K content such as titles, transitions and generators.

The release also brings a variety of usability enhancements, enabling users to bundle multiple events and projects into separate libraries, capture a project in a snapshot for faster versioning, customize project frame sizes, import photos from iOS devices, and hide the browser to gain more screen space, among other new capabilities.

Compressor 4.1 features a redesigned interface with a single-window layout and reorganized controls. Users can take advantage of preset destinations for common encoding tasks, Dolby Digital Plus encoding, and direct YouTube uploads in 4K resolution.

Motion 5.1 has also been optimized for the new Mac Pro, supporting dual GPUs for playback, rendering and FxPlug 3 plug-ins. The update is claimed to load projects faster, particularly for complex projects.

Final Cut Pro 10.1 is immediately available as a free update in the Mac App Store or as a new purchase for $300. Compressor 4.1 and Motion 5.1 are also free updates, or $50 each for new licenses.
