Haarlem Apple Store hit by smash-and-grab robbery
The recently-opened Haarlem Apple Store in the Netherlands fell victim to a smash-and-grab robbery overnight, according to local reports. Residents in the area heard a loud bang, which later turned out to have been a car used to ram through the glass front doors, left at the scene. The thieves are said to have used two scooters to escape.

The store has been closed today while Dutch police investigate the crime scene. Relatively little merchandise appears to have been stolen, but police were also preventing Apple workers from identifying what was stolen until they could conduct their own analysis.
A number of Apple Stores have been targeted by smash-and-grab robberies involving cars. Because Apple uses glass facades at many of its locations, ramming them with a vehicle makes it easy to get in, take as much as possible and leave before police or private security can respond. The Haarlem robbery is the second in a little over a week, following a raid at Apple's Kurf├╝rstendamm store in Berlin.
This is what happened when you give someone Kindle, Surface, or Galaxy for their X-mas present.

A follow up story on whether or not the "display units" are functional outside of the store would be good.

How the hell do you not have anti-ram bollards in front of your all-glass store facade? Especially with easily $100k's of merchandise out in plain site?

This is design 101 for other US retailers...

That all-glass facade practically begs "Rob me!" Some smart architects should be able to come up with ways to harden a store so it can't be robbed in the few minutes before the cops arrive. Make robbery just a little bit more difficult, and it will stop altogether.
