Briefly: Griffin's Merchant Case and Square Reader, PrivacyScan 1.5
Officially announced at this year's CES, Griffin Technology is now shipping its Merchant Case and Square Reader for the iPhone 5/5s/5c line. The Merchant case is custom-molded to secure the Square Reader in place, and eliminate excess strain on the iPhone's headphone jack when connected. The groove along the bottom aligns with the Square Reader, and allows credit cards to slide through smoothly. Its silicone construction protects the phone from drops and bumps, and an integrated slot located on the back of the case stores the Square Reader when not in use.

Intended for business use, the Merchant Case and Square Reader allows sellers of a product or service to facilitate customer transactions in a portable fashion. The device duo works with Square Register, a free point of sale app that lets anyone accept credit payments and run their business. Available for $20, the Merchant Case and Square Reader can be purchased from Griffin Technology's online store.
PrivacyScan adds support to clean open windows data in supported apps
SecureMac has released PrivacyScan version 1.5 this week, offering improved privacy protection for Mac users. Designed specifically for OS X users, PrivacyScan identifies hidden threats that can compromise privacy when accessed by advertisers or other unwanted presences, who attempt to monitor user activity. PrivacyScan has added alerts to notify users when they are syncing data that they are expecting to delete with remote servers. Applications such as Google Chrome save and restore data when relaunched; PrivacyScan alerts the user when syncing is enabled.
Additionally featured in the latest version of PrivacyScan is added support for cleaning open windows data in supported applications. Last opened items in many digital media applications are restored upon relaunching, which can be a privacy concern in a multi-user environment. PrivacyScan 1.5 is priced at $15, and is available through the Mac App Store. Existing users of PrivacyScan can upgrade to the latest version free of charge.
