Apple sends 'neighborly' update letter regarding Campus 2 progress
Residents, landlord and others living on or owning property around the area of Apple's forthcoming "Campus 2" facility in Cupertino have received letters from the iPad maker, updating them on construction plans and any possible road or utility work that might impact them. The letter is the second such update, with the last one delivered nearly a year ago that was more of an informational brochure detailing plans for the campus. The new letter is signed by Dan Whisenhunt, Apple's senior VP of real estate and development.
The letter (seen below) also confirms that serious construction on the site will begin next month, and that the company now plans to move into the facility sometime in "late 2016," AppleInsider notes. Alongside some road and utility disruption, construction will begin with digging and excavating alongside some construction activity. The letter details specific roadways that will be affected, and when it is expected to be done (most of the demolition and street utility work should be completed by the end of the second quarter of the year).
The City of Cupertino has posted a webpage with updates on the Apple construction, which will be updated each Friday with news of any route or lane closures as well as any changes in construction timelines. While road work may begin as early as April 4, it and public utility work are expected to continue through the spring and early summer. "Once utility work in the public streets is complete, we expect less construction disruption as the vast majority of work will be directly on the project site," Whisenhunt writes.
Currently, the company is "wrapping up" demolition of the old HP buildings on the Campus 2 site, as well as some public utility relocation and roadway construction work. Whisenhunt says the crews ran into some unforeseen underground conditions that delayed this work, but expects it to be completed in the next few weeks. The re-opening of the two streets affected by the delay will be followed by the closing of another street as the work continues.
