MacPhun adds print service from Milk Books to Focus 2
Image software maker MacPhun has partnered with PQ Blackwell-owned Milk Tailor Made Books, integrating print services into MacPhun's Focus 2 software for the first time. Users can now order prints of their manipulated images directly from within the program, in the form of postcards, folded notecards, framed gallery prints or wrapped canvas prints.

Example of Focus 2 enhancement

Focus 2 and Focus 2 Pro both allow users to change the focal point of photographs by selectively adding customized blur, giving photos taken without sufficient "depth of field" the effect in software. The program offers easy tilt-shift effects, motion-blur effects, and presets for selectively focusing portraits, landscapes, macro shots, architecture and nature images.

Through the new "Order Prints" button, users can send their digital images to be recreated as postcards or portrait folded notecards (in packs of 12, notecards come with envelopes), wrapped canvas prints, and landscape- or portrait-oriented art prints or framed gallery prints. Prices start at $20 for a set of 12 postcards, printed on art board with a matte seal.
PQ Blackwell, the owner of Milk Books, is a New Zealand-based publisher of top-quality photographic and illustrated books, including such titles as Conversations with Myself by Nelson Mandela. Founder Geoff Blackwell said that the firm was "honored" to be partnering with MacPhun. "We have a long history of working with some of the world's leading photographers, and are delighted to be collaborating with Macphun in this way to enable extraordinary digital content to be created as high quality printed objects."

MacPhun CEO Paul Muzok added that "there is something quite magical about holding a printed image in your hands and sharing it with those closest to you," and added that the partnership with the print-on-demand arm of the company, Milk Books, will "allow photographers of all skill levels to bring images finished in Focus 2 to life with a few easy clicks." MacNN recently reviewed Focus 2 Pro, and found it a surprisingly inventive way to easily create more polished and professional-looking photos, particularly from images taken with cameras in "Auto" setting or infinite focus. Being able to redirect the viewer's eye to a selected, focused area can yield dramatic changes in how the picture is perceived, successfully emulating or enhancing depth of field found on more expensive cameras.
The updated version 1.0.2 for both editions (the Pro version adds some additional controls and also functions as a Photoshop/Lightroom/Aperture plug-in) is or should soon be available as a free upgrade to all current users worldwide. Focus 2 users can update through the Software Update function of the Mac App Store, while Focus 2 Pro users can click the "Check for Updates" function inside the program. For new buyers, Focus 2 is currently available for $10 from the Mac App Store ($5 off its usual price), while Focus 2 Pro can be downloaded as a trial or purchased directly from MacPhun for $40. Users can also upgrade from Focus 2 to the Pro version for $20.
