Developer unlocks hidden 'City Tours' feature in iOS 8 Maps
A developer, Pierre Blazquez, has successfully unlocked the "City Tours" feature Apple has promised for iOS 8 Maps. Until now the feature has been relatively unknown, since it's inactive in the current iOS 8 beta, and was only mentioned in a slide during Apple's WWDC keynote earlier this month. Blazquez explains that he turned the function on through a hidden debug screen.

In effect, City Tours so far appears to be a guided Flyover view. Turning it on switches to Flyover's 3D satellite mode automatically, and then zooms and pans across various landmarks. So far only a small collection of cities are covered, namely Rome, Stockholm, Barcelona, New York, Paris, Glasgow, Cape Town, Perth, Bordeaux, and San Francisco.
More cities will presumably be added before iOS 8's release this fall, or at least over time. Apple has been gradually improving every aspect of Maps; in the long term, the company is expected to restore public transit directions, improve labeling, add more points of interest, and perhaps implement augmented reality options.
