MBP External Monitor get set to default automatically
I recently got the MBP model that has the thunderbolt adapters.

When I used to plug in an external display or projector, the screen would be extended to it by default (my laptop screen would stay the primary display).

With the thunderbolt to VGA adapter, when I plug in a screen, that screen becomes my primary screen by default, and my laptop screen becomes the extended screen. Horribly frustrating, especially when the resolution is goofed up and I can't get to the screen control panel to enable mirroring and fix it.

Does anyone know how to by default, set the laptop screen as the primary when new monitors are attached?
thank you!

System Preferences>Displays>Arrangement and drag the windows as you want them.

More importantly, drag the menu bar between the little monitor representations to set the "main" monitor.

That's what I do, but that setting doesn't persist. When I plug the external monitor back in, I have to do it over again. And the big issue is when I plug into projectors that are fighting the MBP over resolution, I can't see the screen to move the control panel over to fix it. So is there a way to make that setting permanent or if I can't see the second screen, is there another way to enable that?

If you are reconnecting to the same monitor or projector, the settings should hold. Try resetting the PRAM (command-option-p-r held at boot until system chimes at least twice) and try again.
