Can you trust the sidebar?
Today, I clicked on the sidebar, and the 7 items I keep there were all navigating to my backup Hardrive, not my main hardrive.
Any ideas on that? thanks If I'm not clear, let me know... thanks. |
The only thing I can think of is that maybe you booted from the backup instead of the main drive.

Is your main HD your boot drive? If not, it could be that directories in /Volumes have become mixed up in a crash. By default, OS X makes new directories for all non-boot drives, using the name of said drive, in /Volumes and deletes them as required - e.g "/Volumes/My HDD" for a drive called My HDD. If there is already a directory with that name in /Volumes, it does not reuse that directory, but instead adds a new one called "My HDD 1" or (maybe 2, I don't remember). Presumably sidebar tries to connect things up to hide this.

I did a reboot to a backup to repair my Mac HD, but then I rebooted back to my Mac HD!
YEs, Mac HD is the boot drive, which I'm on now. P did not follow all that, but I would guess you are probably right. So the question then is would you trust the sidebar. Imagine working on files for a few weeks to find out they are not the main ones? (I have superduper set to back up from Main HD to a clone— if this goes in reverse all new work is lost) and btw, all the folders I put on the side bar have nothing to do with the Mac HD. |
