emac to linux?
I have an old cube style emac. Someone gave it to me, thought maybe of putting simple linux os on it for the kids, just some basic Internet use.

Any thoughts/advice/recommendations?

eMacs are NOT Motorola 680x0-based.

They run on G4 processors.

Why not continue using 10.4 instead?

This. You can use TenFourFox as your browser. Only flaw is that it does not support Flash, but you can mostly work around that problem using QTE and MacTubes.

You can edit TenFourFox config to re-enable plugins, like Flash. I'd recommend the FlashBlock extension at the same time, to keep performance reasonable.
