Internet recovery issue
I've fitted a new drive to my girlfriend's Macbook. Previously, it was running 10.6. I expected to be able to boot/install from a 10.6 drop-in DVD I have, but this causes kernel panics.

I've read the panics happen on machines newer than the disc being used (I think the disc came with an old machine of mine).

She has an account used to purchase 10.8 on another desktop machine. However, the Macbook won't recognise this through Internet Recovery, because 10.7 was never purchased on that account.

Am I stuck?

Many thanks

Drop-in DVDs frequently don't work on anything but the model they came with. What model Macbook is it - how old? If it is older than 10.6, you should be able to use a fresh Snow Leopard disk to get it going and then install Lion. If it is newer than 10.6, it should support 10.8, which you could then download on the desktop machine and make an install disk out of.

Many thanks for the USB/install tip. Seems to be working perfectly.
