Web slower over cable than wifi?
my parents used to use the web on their imacs over wifi. However, we installed a few cables and a gigabit switch. Ever since, the web is slower than it used to be. I disabled wlan in networking preferences entirely, thought it might confuse anything.

Huh? I checked and it says gigabit in system information. Shouldn't the web be as fast as usual? Thought it rather depends on computer speeds if the web is smooth or not. Sometimes, images load completely, sometimes not...?

Try clearing the DNS and ARP caches. DNS:
OS X: How to reset the DNS cache

ARP: sudo arp -a -d in a terminal

Also consider rebooting all routers in your network. Turn them all off, and start turning them on from the outside and in, ie starting with a cable modem or similar.

I can try. However, if I, right now, simply disable Ethernet and enable Wifi, the web is much faster. Don't these settings apply more globally, to all kinds of networking?
