Space as a file name doesn't solve the problem entirely since selected (or double clicked) icons will have their name (even if only space) highlighted. This doesn't look too nice.

Sure you can name your file " " (space), but when selected Finder shows blue bar for the background of " ".

It seems very odd that my iBooks screen would die putting it to sleep... I'm having really hard time believing this could be hardware issue.

Just recently got my hands on Fallout (Omnigroups Mac OS X version) and it runs damn slow on my mac, iBook 466MHz. Sure it's slow machine, but Fallout 2 runs like a champ with the very same computer....

Tried the hack with iMovie 3.0.2... interface was really cripled, missing buttons, overlapping items etc. Simply and totally unusable.
