You have to make sure you have not checked the option to Hide the "On My Computer" folders. Once you make them visible, the .ics files you drag/dropped will appear.

Thank you for this post, but I would love some more help. After dragging the .ics files into the calendar grid/list, I knew it worked due to some alarms that popped up. But I cannot find the place to...
