I was having problems too. I quit Safari, moved my ~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.Safari.plist file out of the way, and started Safari again, and it began working again. Always try your prefs file...

Sleep.

Wake up takes 2 seconds, uptime typically 2-4 weeks (reboot into a test partition sometimes, software installation, etc.). I spend 50+ hours on this sucker, and have done so for 3.5+ years...
