It took 2 sync but it worked, no speed problem.
The 3g iPod is just as it should have been.:D

They were nice enough to exchange the bad unit at my local Apple store (after an hour of diagnosing!). They replaced just the unit.

So far so good with everything BUT the calendar. I'll wait 2.0.1...
