I have always bought my ram from Crucial (UK) for my Macbook and now my Macbook Pro, and never had an issue, and it's SO much cheaper from them!

Just select you Mac model and it will give you all...

You could use SpanningSync however it's not free but it does give you 2 way syncing, or try Plaxo (1 way that i can see) but is free

Personally you cant get much better than having a duel screen setup, main app on 1 and all the tools on the other! With regards to the DVI to VGA adaptor, i have used both DVi to DVI and DVI to VGA...
