I'm using httpmail with a hotmail account and my "Outgoing Mail Server (SMTP):" is "services.msn.com" - give that a try; I don't see why it would be different for an MSN account.

It seems that removing the iTunes Widget from Dashboard did the trick - which wasn't a problem because it only worked 20% of the time for me...

That's what I thought, but I'm getting a good deal from a friend on the Quicksilver and plan to upgrade it later this year. Even without upgrades it will be a big improvement over my G3 800 iBook...
