This is one way as described by macintologist. I often tape a program to my camcorder and later import the footage, edit & burn to dvd.

I've got 6 of these BYTECC (http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProductDesc.asp?description=17-145-349&depa=0) enclosures, only mine are all firewire 400 only. Never a problem.
