Well, considering the ibook:

1) lacks L3 cache of any type
2) has a significantly slower video card
3) has a slower bus (isn't the ibook 800 a 100Mhz bus?)

Never used FCP3, but 4 runs pretty nice on my Ti. Plenty of realtime effects, the actual interface is as smooth as everything else (read, silky)... rendering can be a bit tiresome for large/complex...
