You're better off putting your money into a faster G4.

That G4 is a "yikes!" model. The mainboard in it is a retooled G3 yosemite board and it will only take G4s up to 550MHz before it throttles...

I'd go with the firewire drive. The only downside is you'd have to carry it with you. But maybe you could find one of the smaller ones...

If you format it FAT for windows, both computers should be able to read and write.
