The weight difference is truly not that big of a deal and my new iPad does get noticably hot in the documented area, but not to the point that it is uncomfortable...

The ares that I see a speed difference is in iBooks, where I have lots of PDF's and webpages.
It is "zippier" overall, but I have not see blazing speed yet.
