Well, I haven't bought Tiger and I probably won't for a while. I don't really feel I need it right now. And if Apple is already skimping on its support for Panther, that's going to be an issue.

Yep. Mine started this just after installing 10.3.8 as well. And it does clear up if you mess with the brightness manually, like you said. I guess manually setting it overrides the auto function....
