Thanks for that imitchellg5.

I hadn't thought of the HD speed, but I can see why, now that you mention it.

When to upgrade G4 iMac (esp. for Garageband) 548 Views / 2 Replies
It's an oldie but a goodie. When to upgrade?

I have a 1 Ghz G4 iMac which does everything absolutely fine for me, except it's somewhat slow and creaky running Garageband. I've maxed the (Apple)...

ROKR and Nano keynote 32,571 Views / 58 Replies
The ROKR phone is a horrible clunky cheap-looking item that Jonathan Ives would, I imagine, loathe to be even vaguely associated with. A real disappointment to see such a product held up by Steve...

Good point beb.

Look at the G5 tower cooling zones. Getting a G5 iMac cool (temperature-wise) would take some doing!

Hi Simon,

Yes I too have the 1Ghz iMac (with maxed Apple RAM), and agree with you on its virtues. I was just doing the usual "oops, there's new one out, and when will I need to upgrade" thing that...

1.25Ghz?

Not much of a boost. Certainly no temptation to anyone with a 17" 800MHz/IGhz iMac, but perhaps that's just as well. You don't want to be too annoyed a few months after you bought the...

The flagship G4 iMac 1Ghz 17" is way ahead of it's time. I reckon it will be 1.2/1.4 GHz within a year, but the pro/home differential will be G4/G5 for at least a year.

Why buy the pro range with...

If your considering the 17" iMac, I strongly recommend Apple memory. You're upgrading from a 15" 800MHz, so it would be a false economy to save a bit of cash buying potentially unreliable memory....
