Have you tried cleaning the screen with a spray? Even fingerprints don't come off my screen unless I spray it. I use Kensington Screen Guardian and a 3M scotch bright cloth.

It's weird that the designers didn't strengthen this area from the inside. The lip on the edge of the palmrest that takes the strain of the closed screen is incredibly thin, and the plastic itself...
