I do not have FB sync turned on. I did my best to scrub the contact from all my synced devices and waited a day before adding him back in. So far, so good. I will post again if the mysterious surname...

I realize this thread is about 3 years old, but it's the only one I could find where someone had the same issue I do! Has anyone found a solution? Is anything different with iCloud?
