I asked this same question 6 months ago, only then the choice was G4/450 or G3/800. Everyone said to buy the G3/800; which I did and my B&W got a new lease on life.

Go for the G3.

You can try resetting the power manager, but my guess is you need a new battery. I bought a refurb. TiBook from Apple and originally the battery indicator would show about 3 hours of life...

It's a shot in the dark, but, have you tried to "overclock" the CPU? If so, some of the jumpers could be intermittently losing contact. That will lock up the computer.
