It seems there was a problem with the password, the ISP reset it and it seems to work fine now. No idea why it continued to work on the other machines. Puzzling indeed. Thanks for your help!

Booted in safe mode and same issue.

Yeah I wish I could, but there is no practical spot for it. Also the iMac is on the bottom floor and it is imperative it has the most reliable and fastest signal.
