I highly recommend this option. It is what I do for all of my machines. I have my G5 set to startup at 6am when I wake up and BOINC starts right up with it, works nicely.

I can send details on...

My liquid-cooled G5 DP 2.5 running alpha 5.2 checks in at 177F and 154F for CPUs A and B using istat nano. Hardware monitor gives me 187 and 167 with the safe threshold of 190.4. HW monitor shows...

I set up the the superbench, gui-compatible boinc CLI client as a startup service so that boinc starts up when the computer starts up, regardless if someone logs in or not. It also works well...

I've seen postings on other forums that they think the stock enhanced clients may be more optimized than the current s@h clients out of the box. That said, I've also seen that crunch3r is working on...

My method is to run the non-gui client and just periodically check in on using BOINCManager, then quit the app after I am done. I do a 'chmod 000 boinc' on the boinc which is embedded in the gui...

There is the key, "idle". What I would be curious about is what is the power draw while running s@H on both processors with Nap enabled and with Nap disabled. I would bet money that the difference...

E@H stock client is also altivec enhanced and Alex has a super-enhanced SETI client. The G5 quads are crushing the competition in RAC for both E@H and S@H.

As another point of reference, I'm averaging about 9000 CPU seconds for a 500 MHz G4 using alpha-5-g4. I've been *very* pleased with alpha-5 on my old G4. It does, however, do nothing but crunch...

In addition to the detailed instructions on page 7, you also need to include the bigfft_wisdom file appropriate for your machine. See the post by E.T. from Tellus on the previous page to get the...

If it's running slower (about 2x slower) it's likely not loading but you can confirm this when you look at a completed workunit (go to mycompters on the s@h site, then look at workunits associated...

Update for alpha-52 on my DP G5 2.5:
56 units complete, 30 have validated and 26 are pending. There have been no confirmed invalids yet.

I'm getting times very close to alpha-6, maybe even a tad better but too few to tell at this point. Same speed and better validation rates, best of both worlds!! Kudos, Alex.:D

I appreciate the more detailed reply. I guess what we need to keep in mind is the performance gains relative to the stock client with a lower invalid rate already achieved and to keep along that...

I think that is higher than my alpha-5 rate although I do not have 100 results to look at in order to get a more stable estimate. If I had to guess, I would think that the alpha-5 rate has been more...
