Remember that heat rises, and it should be a bit cooler close to the floor. But also be sure there isn't a heat duct or heat panel on the wall near where you place the computer.

No, sorry.

You can have such a setup on some notebooks that, in addition to the LCD screen, have a video out port.

The Mini just has the one video port.

Are you booting off a boot CD and then running disk utility to initialize/partition drive?

90% of the time these troubles arrive because something is wrong connector/jumper-wise. I did a HDD...

I suspect 512-640 MB is the 'sweet spot' but you will have a lot of fun in any case . If you are new to OS X the iMac will serve well as an introduction.

I have a G3 400 iMac with 640 MB and OS X runs surprisingly well - I have been re-doing it after purchasing a Mac Mini and the job has been a pleasure - I thought the Mini might have spoiled me, but...
