Yup, I use a 1 TB WD Green in my Mac Pro for TM backups and it's absolutely silent and unnoticeable. Very good solution.
I also use a FW800 drive to backup my digital photos via an Aperture vault....

Well, I just edited the safari .plist to enable PDF-support in webkit manually and now I can view PDF's inline again.
Glad I didn't jump to get a rather expensive upgrade to Acrobat 8 without trying...

I use iDefrag myself, but don't need to let it run a lot really.
Mac OS X and HFS+ seem to be playing very nice to avoid much fragmentation.
Still interesting if you have lots of GB+ video files...
