You're best option I think is to auction it on eBay and then use that money to buy a Powerbook used off eBay.

The Powerbooks are the "pro" laptops and thus Apple does not think we need them.

I don't exactly have a scale here, but the Timbuk2 is what I would call around 1-1.2 pounds.

I don't think ahouls be a major issue if you want to protect you laptop. Padding and shock absorption...
