On my powerbook, the latest camino 0.9a keeps hogging the processor, even when I am not doing anythingelse. The CPU usage goes from 20% to 78% in some sort of cycle. Going back to 0.8.4 for now.

Daredevil,

for the tasks you described, why not get an ibook or a previous rev powerbook. I don't think PC notebooks offer the kind of price, portability and features that Apple notebooks does....

everything is like lightspeed to me (previous notebook is a very
very slow 600MHz iBook). I get about 3.5 to 4 hours of battery...
