If the power button connects via a separate connector near the upper right, you could try shorting those two pins as well, though, the two bare spots elsewhere on the logic board usually work...

This is interesting... Does the adapter present the two cards as one IDE master and one IDE slave? If so, where does that leave the optical drive, as you can only have two IDE devices on one bus? ...
